How to Use
Click Generate New Address to create a fresh MotaCoin address and its private key. The public address (left) is what you share with others to receive MOTA. The private key (right) is your secret — never share it.
Print or save both QR codes. To spend later, import the private key into a MotaCoin wallet.
A MotaCoin wallet is as simple as a single pairing of a MotaCoin address with its corresponding MotaCoin private key. Such a wallet has been generated for you in your web browser and is displayed above.
To safeguard this wallet you must print or otherwise record the MotaCoin address and private key. It is important to make a backup copy of the private key and store it in a safe location. This site does not have knowledge of your private key. If you are familiar with PGP you can download this all-in-one HTML page and check that you have an authentic version from the author of this site by matching the SHA256 hash of this HTML with the SHA256 hash available in the signed version history document linked on the footer of this site. If you leave/refresh the site or press the "Generate New Address" button then a new private key will be generated and the previously displayed private key will not be retrievable. Your MotaCoin private key should be kept a secret. Whomever you share the private key with has access to spend all the motacoins associated with that address. If you print your wallet then store it in a zip lock bag to keep it safe from water. Treat a paper wallet like cash.
Add funds to this wallet by instructing others to send motacoins to your MotaCoin address.
Check your balance by going to explorer.motacoin.net and entering your MotaCoin address.
Spend your motacoins by going to blockchain.info and sweep the full balance of your private key into your account at their website. You can also spend your funds by downloading one of the popular motacoin p2p clients and importing your private key to the p2p client wallet. Keep in mind when you import your single key to a motacoin p2p client and spend funds your key will be bundled with other private keys in the p2p client wallet. When you perform a transaction your change will be sent to another motacoin address within the p2p client wallet. You must then backup the p2p client wallet and keep it safe as your remaining motacoins will be stored there. Satoshi advised that one should never delete a wallet.
How to Use
Generate beautifully designed paper wallets you can print and store offline as cold storage. Each card contains a public address (for receiving) and a private key (for spending).
- Set how many addresses to generate and click Generate
- Optionally enable BIP38 Encrypt to password-protect your private keys
- Click Print and cut along the edges to create individual wallet cards
- Store in a safe, dry place — treat them like cash
Tip: Uncheck "Hide Art?" to see the full artistic wallet card design with MotaCoin branding.
- Use the Bulk Wallet tab to pre-generate a large number of motacoin addresses (10,000+). Copy and paste the generated comma separated values (CSV) list to a secure text file on your computer. Backup the file you just created to a secure location.
- Import the motacoin addresses into a database table on your web server. (Don't put the wallet/private keys on your web server, otherwise you risk hackers stealing your coins. Just the motacoin addresses as they will be shown to customers.)
- Provide an option on your website's shopping cart for your customer to pay in MotaCoin. When the customer chooses to pay in MotaCoin you will then display one of the addresses from your database to the customer as his "payment address" and save it with his shopping cart order.
- You now need to be notified when the payment arrives. Google "motacoin payment notification" and subscribe to at least one motacoin payment notification service. There are various services that will notify you via Web Services, API, SMS, Email, etc. Once you receive this notification, which could be programmatically automated, you can process the customer's order. To manually check if a payment has arrived you can use Block Explorer. Replace THEADDRESSGOESHERE with the motacoin address you are checking. It could take between 10 minutes to one hour for the transaction to be confirmed.
http://www.blockexplorer.com/address/THEADDRESSGOESHERE
Unconfirmed transactions can be viewed at: http://blockchain.info/
You should see the transaction there within 30 seconds. - MotaCoins will safely pile up on the block chain. Use the original wallet file you generated in step 1 to spend them.
How to Use
A brain wallet generates a MotaCoin address from a passphrase you choose. The same passphrase will always produce the same address and private key — no need to store a key file.
- Enter a passphrase (and confirm it)
- Click View to derive the address and private key
- Send MOTA to the generated address
Warning: Your passphrase must be long and unique. Short or common phrases can be cracked. Use 12+ random words for security.
What is a Vanity Wallet?
A vanity address is a MotaCoin address that starts with a custom prefix you choose (e.g. MMota... or MBob...). It's cosmetic — the address works like any other, but looks personalized.
How It Works (Split-Key Method)
Vanity addresses are found by brute-force searching, which can take a long time. This tool uses a split-key method so you can safely outsource the search to a vanity mining pool without exposing your private key:
- Step 1 — Generate your partial key pair. Click Generate to create your part of the key. Save the Step 1 Private Key somewhere safe — you'll need it later. Copy the Step 1 Public Key and submit it to a vanity pool along with your desired prefix.
- Step 2 — Wait for the pool. The pool searches for an address matching your prefix using only your public key (they never see your private key). When found, they give you a Pool Part Private Key.
- Step 3 — Combine. Paste your Step 1 Private Key and the Pool Part Private Key into the Step 2 fields below. Select Add and click Calculate Vanity Wallet. Your final vanity address and full private key are generated.
Security: The pool never has your full private key. Only the combination of both partial keys produces the spendable wallet. Always verify the resulting address starts with your desired prefix before using it.

What is a Split Wallet?
A split wallet uses Shamir's Secret Sharing to divide a private key into multiple pieces (shares). You need a minimum number of shares (the threshold) to reconstruct the key — but any fewer shares reveal nothing.
How to Use
Splitting a key:
- Set the threshold — the minimum number of shares needed to recover the key (e.g. 2)
- Set the number of shares to generate (e.g. 3)
- Click Generate to create a new wallet and split its private key into shares
- Distribute each share to a different trusted person or safe location
Combining shares:
- Collect the minimum threshold number of shares
- Paste them into the Enter Available Shares box (one per line, whitespace separated)
- Click Combine Shares to reconstruct the private key
Example: With 2-of-3 splitting, you give 3 people each a share. Any 2 of them can recover the wallet, but 1 share alone is useless. Great for inheritance planning, multi-party custody, or disaster recovery.
How to Use
Paste any MotaCoin private key to view its full details: the corresponding public address, public key, and the private key in multiple encoding formats (WIF, WIFC, HEX, B64).
You can also BIP38 encrypt an existing private key with a passphrase, or decrypt a BIP38-encrypted key.
Never enter a private key on an online computer if it holds significant funds. Use this tool offline for maximum security.
MotaCoin v0.6+ stores public keys in compressed format. The client now also supports import and export of private keys with importprivkey/dumpprivkey. The format of the exported private key is determined by whether the address was generated in an old or new wallet.
